Hi, I'm Luis

Profile Picture

A Front-End Web Developer passionate about creating interactive applications and experiences on the web.

A bit about me

I am a self-taught web developer based in Houston, TX. I'm 26 years old and I've been a server for over six years, but found my true passion in the world of programming.

A few years ago I began teaching myself HTML and CSS just for fun, but the fun quickly turned into a passion which led me to commit myself completely to exploring the intricacies of the web. Since then, I have completely fallen in love with not only coding itself, but also with the process of learning and teaching myself different technologies.

The goal for this site is for future employers to get a sense of who I am and the work that I do, but also as a way for me to document my progress as a professional developer throughout the upcoming years.

Timeline

2022:

> 👦 My first real portfolio site!

> 🔨 Developed my first application with user authentication and data storage.

2021:

> 👰 I married the love of my life!

> 🏖️ Honeymooned in Tulum, Mexico.

> Towards the end of 2021, I felt like I was finally ready to start introducing myself to React and other frameworks aside from just HTML, CSS, and Javascript. I was pumped about web development before, but this kindled the fire even more!

2020:

> Winter of 2020, I began teaching myself Javascript and basic programming concepts.

> 💍 I proposed to my high school sweetheart, Lauren.

> 🧍↔️🧍 As unfortunate as the pandemic was, the time spent in quarantine allowed me to focus solely on improving my HTML & CSS skills. The countless hours practicing code started to pay off because I began to see a big increase in competency which in turn sparked confidence and passion for web development.

2019:

> 🦵 I tore the ligaments in both my knees and was unable to walk for several months. It was at this time that I became interested in web development because I wanted to obtain a skill set that would allow me to work even if I was injured. It didn't take long before I concluded that web development was the career for me. I quickly found myself spending hours on freecodecamp.org learning to build websites.

Skills

I have acquired skills that allow me to create stunning websites and applications that solve real-world problems. My goal is to become the most competent programmer that I can be in order to impact the world one program at a time.

The technologies above are the technologies that I feel most comfortable using at the moment, and every day I'm seeking to learn more to further my growth in these languages.

Some of the things that I'm currently learning are TypeScript, PHP, and Next.js. Additionally, I have a good understanding of Git, Figma, and Stack Overflow. 😎

Projects

As I progress in knowledge and skill, I seek to apply what I know to create beautiful digital solutions.
